But it is understood the final details surrounding the financial package led to an impasse in recent weeks. The US tie-up may also make an all-British heavyweight showdown with Anthony Joshua even more challenging to make.

Matchroom-promoted Joshua has fights broadcast on new streaming service DAZN in America and they would be unwilling to allow a star attraction go on a rival network.
